Brush is a city located in Morgan County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,117.
Brush has its own water wells, drawing from the Beaver Creek aquifer. They are one of the few cities in the state which has water so pure that chlorination is not required before it is put into the distribution system for consumption. The only thing added is fluoride to help prevent tooth decay. Additionally, the water is naturally softened by area sandhills.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,117 people, 1,836 households, and 1,233 families residing in the city. The population density is 819.8/km² (2,120.0/mi²). There are 1,923 housing units at an average density of 308.1/km² (796.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 75.81% White, 0.39% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 20.19% from other races, and 2.91% from two or more races. 37.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,836 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% are non-families. 28.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.29.
In the city the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $31,333, and the median income for a family is $39,094. Males have a median income of $24,431 versus $20,371 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,672. 10.4% of the population and 5.4% of families are below the poverty line. Named for Jared L. Brush. Brush came west to mine gold west of Denver in 1859, making him a "Fifty-Niner." Along with his brothers, William and John, homesteaded in northeast Colorado on the Big Thompson River north of present day Johnstown. Served as Weld County commissioner and sheriff, elected to the state legislature, and served as Lieutenant Governor twice. The town was named for him in 1882.
