Deer Trail is a town located in Arapahoe County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 598.
Deer Trail, Colorado, home of the World's First Rodeo, sits quietly on the eastern plains. Just 54 miles east of Denver on Interstate 70, residents enjoy rural plains living as well as the urban offerings only forty-five minutes away.
In 1969, Colorado House Joint Resolution No. 1025, with the Senate and the House of Representatives concurring, declared the first rodeo held in the world was in Deer Trail, Colorado on July 4, 1869.

As of the census of 2000, there are 598 people, 247 households, and 162 families residing in the town. The population density is 230.9/km² (596.5/mi²). There are 274 housing units at an average density of 105.8/km² (273.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.32% White, 0.33% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.84% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.84% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. 2.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 247 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% are non-families. 30.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.06.
