Northglenn is a city located in Adams County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 31,575.
Northglenn is located nine miles north of Denver, Colorado, in western Adams County. It began as a planned community in the spring of 1959, when a housing and land development firm finalized plans for a large housing subdivision north of the Denver Metropolitan area. The vision of a well-balanced community included acres of open space for park and recreation development along with residential, industrial, educational and commercial plans. From the first residential development in 1959, Northglenn has grown to a home rule City encompassing 7.5 square miles of land.
Northglenn is a community recognized for a well-planned trail system that makes it possible to walk virtually in any direction within the City. Recreational facilities include 550 acres of parks and open space, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, ball fields, and a recreation center.
In December of 2001, Northglenn received America's Crown Community Award by American City and County Magazine for the rehabilitation and re-design of one of the City's major parks-Webster Lake and E. B. Rains, Jr. Memorial Park.

As of the census of 2000, there are 31,575 people, 11,610 households, and 8,208 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,643.0/km² (4,256.2/mi²). There are 12,051 housing units at an average density of 627.1/km² (1,624.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 83.04% White, 1.52% African American, 1.14% Native American, 3.07% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 8.13% from other races, and 2.94% from two or more races. 20.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 11,610 households out of which 33.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% are non-families. 23.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.19.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $48,276, and the median income for a family is $52,888. Males have a median income of $36,214 versus $28,231 for females. The per capita income for the city is $20,253. 5.4% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
